Since 2003, Farragut Christian Church has organized the PROM OF THE STARS. This is a free Prom for physically and mentally challenged individuals, ages 15 and older, which is completly supported by the community. The prom is held annually on the second Saturday of November, and November 8th marks the sixth annual prom. Over 800 participants and caregivers attended in 2007, and we anticipates another year of growth as word of this special event continues to spread. There are 59.5 million special needs individuals in the United States, about 20% of the population. In Knox County, approximately 71,000 people live with a physical or mental challenge. Like most people, they desire the same opportunities as others in our community have, with chances to participate in a variety of activities.
